II.1.4) Short description
NatureScot is looking to improve wildfire resilience on Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve (NNR) in the long-term. This work will include an evidence-based assessment the current wildfire resilience of different habitats on Beinn Eighe NNR, and prioritisation of potential strategic interventions to improve the future wildfire resilience. Proposed interventions will be strategic and prioritised across the NNR (i.e. a risk-based approach), to break up or contain areas of high risk or high consequence of wildfire.
NatureScot is also looking to undertake elements of this work on another site to make a comparison of similar habitats in a different geological and climatic area. This will help us interpret the data at a more regional and national level.

NatureScot is looking for an assessment of the main habitats on Beinn Eighe NNR and Muir of Dinnet NNR to the risk of wildfire and potential impacts to guide future management to improve the long-term resilience to wildfire. These two sites have been chosen as holding similar broad habitat types but being in different parts of the country with different environmental conditions. This research will provide us with evidence-based data which can help to inform where strategic interventions will be most effective at reducing the long-term risk and/or impact of wildfire on the NNRs.
